🐱 CVC words worksheets
CVC words are short words made of a consonant, a vowel and a consonant, like cat, dog, sun, pig, hat, fox, box, net, web, van, hen, bus and cup. There are three page types: read and match (draw a line from the word to its picture), missing middle sound (say the picture name and write the vowel in the box) and trace and write. Choose “All three” for a short set.
Frequently asked questions
What does CVC mean?
Consonant, vowel, consonant. Words like cat and sun are among the first words children can sound out and blend on their own.
My child cannot read yet. Can we still use it?
Yes. Start with the trace-and-write page and say each sound together: /c/ /a/ /t/, cat. The pictures help with meaning.
Why only the middle sound?
The middle vowel is usually the hardest sound to hear. Practicing it on its own makes blending easier.
Are the words the same in US and UK English?
Yes. All words were chosen because they are spelled and used the same way in American and British English.
